To ensure your tillage and seeding equipment is in good shape next season, it's important that you undergo a comprehensive post-season maintenance check.
One of the most important considerations is to ensure all units are thoroughly cleaned and that any residual fertiliser or grain is removed before storage.
"This helps to prevent vermin such as rats and mice, and avoids a build-up of material which can be difficult to remove at a later stage and adversely affect future performance," explained Tim Slater, Flexi-Coil Product Performance Manager.
Post-season maintenance tips include:
- Coat all exposed ram surfaces with a thick oil to ensure good working order in the season ahead
- Check and inspect for any structural damage
- Check and remove the meter rollers and removable jaw of each meter box
- Check the trips and shanks, and tighten any lose bolts
- Assign and tighten the trip assemblies
- Rotate primary hoses ¼ turn to extend hose life
- Check the tyre pressure, wheel nut torque, wheel bearings, bearing lock collars and the secondary header ring for wear and damage
- Flush the entire manifold, tank interior, agitator and fixed portion of the meter box with high-pressure water. Allow to dry before storage.
